It is the eve of Thanksgiving and millions of people will be traveling today and tomorrow to see family and friends. AAA is predicting Thanksgiving travel to be at its highest level since 2007. The Titcomb Insurance Agency wants to share some tips for your Thanksgiving travel to ensure you and your family are safe this holiday season.
Traveling on the Roadways
- Make sure you are well rested and alert
- Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained and you stop for fuel in advance
- Check the weather conditions and plan your trip accordingly if any storms are predicted
- Always wear your seat belt
- Do not drive under the influence
- Do not speed and obey the rules of the road
- Stay alert to your surroundings and other drivers, avoid distractions such as cellphones
- During long trips, stop take a break or switch drivers, stretch your legs or even grab a cup of coffee
- Do not drive to close to the vehicle in front of you
- Use your turn signals
- Be sure your headlights and wipers are working properly. Use your headlights as dusk approaches and if your wipers are on, turn on your headlights
- If you are having car trouble or a flat tire pull over as far as possible in a safe area, have your roadside assistance contact information handy, call for help and stay with your vehicle
- Be sure to bring cellphone chargers in order to have your cell phone charged in case of an emergency
Traveling by Planes, Trains and Buses
- Plan ahead and give yourself extra time to arrive to the airport, train or bus station. Volume of passengers will be high
- It is flu season be sure to wash your hands frequently and/or carry hand sanitizer or anti-bacterial wipes with you
- Avoid touching your eyes or face, if you have to sneeze use a tissue or your sleeve
- Dress to be comfortable during your trip
